Rex, portrait of a Jack Russell Terrier, by Francois Bard. Oil on canvas. Signed, dated, and entitled on verso: "Bard 2018 Rex". Francois Bard (French, born 1959) graduated in 1980 from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later studied at the Casa Velazquez in Madrid from 1988-90. During the 1980s there was a movement away from abstraction towards figuration in both the US and Europe, and Bard was strongly influenced by this movement. His paintings are monumental in scale and although his subjects are frequently figural - using photographs the artist takes himself - he is known for his portraits of dogs like Rex. Provenance: Purchased at Galerie Artima, London for $24,500.00. Canvas: 58" x 76". Good condition with minor abrasions along the lower edge and two scratches in the lower right corner.
