Carlos Peñalver Gisbert was born in Valencia, in 1926. He studied at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts and was a favorite disciple of the Valencian painter Salvador Tusset. He came to be called by art critics "the painter of sailboats" for the technical mastery, virtuoso realism and chromaticism with which he resolved his compositions. Carlos Peñalver was considered the heir of the great Valencian marine school of the 19th century, whose teachers included Rafael Monleón and José Pineda. He achieved important artistic rewards throughout his career and his work is present in the Maritime Museum of Valencia and the Naval Museum of Madrid, as well as in various Spanish and foreign private collections. Signed l.r. "Penalver". Oil on canvas. Provenance: Wentworth Gallery. Frame: 39" x 32". Good condition.
