Herman Moll (c. 1654-1732) was one of the most important London mapmakers in the first half of the eighteenth century. Check out the curious depiction of the Florida Coastline, the Mississippi is west of its correct location and California is shown as an island. Map shows several other mythical elements, including Lahontan Long River and the Strait of Anian, part of the fabled Northwest Passage. Mid 18th century. Frame, with museum glazing: 17" x 15", sight: 10" x 7". Good condition, with minor foxing and folds as issued.
